Jim launched Thursday Night at the Fights in 1989 at The Midnight Express, where he built his very first boxing ring in his garage before upgrading to a professional ring. This upcoming season marks the 37th year of Thursday Night at the Fights!
After a few years, Jim moved the fights to the Egan Center, where the shows consistently sold out for years. With seven fights each week and 22–26 shows per year, the event has become a cornerstone of Alaska’s boxing community.
Over the decades, several world-class fighters have come out of Thursday Night at the Fights. Cody Koch won the Toughman World Championships. Eddie Coulson earned second place in the same competition. Greg Haugen went on to win three world titles, including a victory over Jimmy Paul—who, at the time, was considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
